Fantastic sunset and sunrise viewing spot around Enoshima

Mt.Fuji seeing from Enoshima.Dawn in Katase Nishihama.Enoshima Island is facing ocean on three direction (except for north). Thanks to its location, it is not being blocked by any obstacles and you can see really amazing sunrise and sunset.

Enoshima Bentenbashi Bridge

Right side facing Enoshima Island of this bridge is one of the best spot to see sunset around here. On the other hand, it is not so good to see sunrise, because of another bridge for vehicle in its left side.

It is able to see illuminated Sea Candle on the top of the island at late afternoon.

  • The bridge is located between Enoshima Island and Katase Town.
  • All you have to go to the seaside from any station in the area. Then, cross the seaside road by underpass and walk more for a way to the island.

Nishiura Cove (near Nakamise Street)

Nishiura Cove a hidden coast facing to the west is also good place to see sunset.
Local person often comes to see sunset but there are not so many tourists knowing here.
[How to get there]
  • Pass through the green bronze Torii gate and climb the slope of Nakamise Street.
  • There is a very small alley between Harumi Shokudo restaurant and Iwamotoro Ryokan hotel on the right side of the middle of the slope.
  • There is a small sand beach when you go ahead through the alley, here is Nishiura Cove.

Top of Sea Candle

Sunset at Sea CandleFrom top of Sea Candle tower's viewing terrace, you can look down vast ocean view with a different viewpoint from other places, thanks to its 101.5 meters high above sea level.

On 01 January every year, it held specially early morning admission to see first sunrise of the year (called as "Hatsuhinode" in Japanese.) only for the person who was elected in the lottery.
[How to get there]
  • Go to the Red Torii gate the top end of Nakamise Street slope.
  • Climb the long winding stairway or ride on Escar a paid escalator to the top of mountain passing through Enoshima Jinja Shrine (Hetsunomiya and Nakatsunomiya).
  • The entrance of Samuel Cocking Garden / Sea Candle is in the right forward of the square.

Kamegaoka Square (Next to Sea Candle)

Late sun and Sea Candle.This highest place in Enoshima Island is opened out to the west. It is possible to see the beautiful sunset sky with the unique shape sea candle tower.

[How to get there]
  • Go to the Red Torii gate the top end of Nakamise Street slope.
  • Climb the long winding stairway or ride on Escar a paid escalator to the top of mountain passing through Enoshima Jinja Shrine (Hetsunomiya and Nakatsunomiya).
  • The left side of the square is here. Free viewing deck is in the rooftop of the restaurant.

Chigogafuchi Abyss and near Iwaya Cave

Cloudy sunset and Mt.fuji in Chigogafuchi.Chigogafuchi Abyss in the west end of the island is a famous sunset viewing spot especially popular with couples and friends.
During low tide, you can go down to reef and enjoy great sunset view near the sea.
Please pay attention for your foot since unstable by rocks and seaweed, when you walk the reef.

  • Ride Bentenmaru ferry boat from the pier near Enoshima Bentenbashi Bridge.
  • or
  • Walk "Oiwayamichi" long winding stairway bound for Okutsunomiya shrine of Enoshima Jinja Shrine and go further to Iwaya Cave.
  • (*Use the shortcut way between Red Torii gate and Yama-futatsu valley, you can save time and go there easier)

Southern Coast (ahead of embankment)

Moon rises above the cliff.Southern Coast in ahead of the embankment is another good place to see sunset.
Reef has spread around this area, it is possible to see a different harsh atmosphere of the mountain that can't see in other place in Enoshima Island.

(*Here is a place of the closed to the public for safety reasons, however it is consented tacitly to enter here at your own risks. So, do not go to near the cliff and must not enter cliff side of the wirerope.)
[How to get there]
  • Turn left for Higashimachi and Yacht Harbor, when you finished cross the bridge.
  • Then, go to the way to Shotenjima Park and small rock mountain on the right side.
  • After passing aside of the park, turn right and go to the road which is between the park and closed site.
  • When you turn left go further ahead, there is a breakwater in front of you. Entrance to the coast is in right cliffside of the embankment.

Katase Nishihama Beach

A lighthouse at the pier in the port.Well-known surfing spot Katase Nishihama Beach is also good place to see both sunrise and sunset.
This long beach is able to enjoy vast seascape both of Enoshima Island and Mt.Fuji.
It has higher waves in comparison with other place here.

[How to get there]
  • If you are in Katase-Enoshima Station, turn right and cross the seaside road. You can go to the beach from around Enoshima Aquarium.
  • From Enoshima Station and Shonan-Enoshima Station, go left and walk Subana Street to seaside. Go underpass and cross the seaside road, turn right and up the stair then cross the bridge, you will arrive Enoshima Aquarium and able to go to the beach.

Katase Gyoko fisherman's port

A lighthouse at the pier in the port.Katase Gyoko fisherman's port (片瀬漁港) is adjacent to Katase Nishihama Beach.
There is a long pier that extends towards the island and opened to the public. So you can walk to lighthouse at the end of the pier and see the island close.
At this place, you can see both sunrise and sunset.

  • The port is in between Fujisawa City Tourist Information and Enoshima Aquarium.
  • There is a road next to Tourist Information and you can access to entrance of the port.

Katase Higashihama and Koshigoe Beach

These opposite eastern side beaches of Enoshima Island are also able to see sunset. You can enjoy a scene of the beautiful sunset and twilight seascape in these calm wave beaches.

[How to get there]
  • If you are in Katase-Enoshima Station, go straight and cross the bridge.
  • When you finished cross the bridge, there is a downstairs to the underpass on your right. You can go to the beach, if you turn left at the center of the underpass.
  • From Enoshima Station and Shonan-Enoshima Station, go left and walk down Subana Street to seaside. Go underpass and turn left at the center of the underpass, you will go to the beach.

Koshigoe Gyoko fisherman's port

Late afternoon oceanview from Koshigoe Gyoko port.Koshigoe Town is in opposite east side of Enoshima Island. So you can see fantastic sunset together with the island and Mt.Fuji.
There is a nice view deck facing west at the end of embankment in Koshigoe Fisherman's Port (腰越漁港) to see sunset.

  • A few minutes walk from Koshigoe Station of Enoden Line.
  • Also you can walk the sand beach along a coastline from the island.

Seaside of Kamakura Koko Mae Station

The setting sun colored the sky and the sea into gold.
Beautiful sunrise and sunset can be seen at the ocean-view platform of Kamakura Koko Mae Station of Enoden Line and also near seaside.
If you walk 2 or 3 minutes from the station and cross the railroad and the road, you can go to the seaside.

Seaside parking in Shichirigahama

It is able to see sunset from the seaside parking and shoreside in Shichirigahama, similar to the scenery from Kamakura Koko Mae. This place is particularly popular among young people, and many couples and group of friends are come here and looking the sunset on the weekend.
Here is also good place to see the sunrise in Kamakura. In the morning of the first day of the New Year, many people visit here to see the sunrise.
[How to get there]
  • Turn left to the main road at the front of Shichirigahama Station of Enoden Line.
  • Then, turn right and cross the seaside road to go to the seaside. There is a large open-air parking to your left.
  • It is able to go to the seashore via downstairs from the parking.

Park at Inamuragasaki Cape

Evening view from Inamuragasaki at twilight.If you see the sunset in Kamakura, this Inamuragasaki Cape is the place that everyone list first. Here is one of the famous sunset viewing spot in Japan. Especially on sunny weekend late afternoon, many people visit here and crowded to see the sunset.

7 minutes walk from Inamuragasaki Station of Enoden Line required to go there, however,a must-see magnificent sunset scenery with Enoshima Island and Mt.Fuji is waiting on you!! (*Sunrise can not see from here.)
[How to get there]
  • Turn left and cross Enoden Line railway from Inamuragasaki Station.
  • Again turn left at the front of 7-11 convenient store and along the road.
  • Then, turn right and down the slope, you will reach the seaside road. The cape park is in seaside hill to your left.
