As the rainy season begins, the brightly colored hydrangea flowers adorn the streets and gardens
Do you know Enoshima Island in Japan?
This tiny island located in the center of Kanagawa, southwest of Tokyo and Yokohama, also in the west of famous historical city Kamakura.
Around the island and Kamakura is one of the popular tourist destination in Japan since very old days by beautiful seascape with Mount Fuji, fantastic sunset, historical sites of samurai, pilgrimage to sanctuary and fresh seafoods.
In recent years, it becomes a featured place again as a fantastic illumination event, a rare scenes of a traditional festival involving local trains, a good shore of the nearest marine sports from Tokyo, and a filming location of drama, movies and anime works.

Important information

From March 12, 2022 Odakyu Line have changed its train operating patterns.
All trains to/from Katase-Enoshima terminate at Fujisawa.
There is no direct service to/from Shinjuku, Machida and Sagami-Ono except for limited express train "Romance Car".

May 21 (Sat)
Koshigoe Sky Lantern Festival
@Ryukoji Temple
The first-time ever held spring illumination event.
Lanterns will be flown into the sky starting at 18:45(6:45p.m.).
Market starts at 11:00 a.m., and live music and other stage events are scheduled from 13:00(1:00 p.m.) onward.
In case of rain, the event will be postponed to May 22.

Around mid of June - mid of July
Hydrangea (a.k.a. Ajisai) flowers blooming season
Between the middle of June to the middle of July, Japan is in the rainy season called "Tsuyu". There are lot of cloudy, rainy and humid days continue.
However, it is a hydrangea flower (Ajisai in Japanese) that colors this season and shows beautiful sights. Especially in Kamakura is a very crowded season with many tourists and photographers visiting the sirines and temples to see this flower from early in the morning.
Hydrangea flowers bloom earlier than usual this year, in some places, it is already beginning to bloom.
